Getting Toe Nail Fungus

It’s amazing how easily you get infected…and how hard it is to have your healthy nails back. The places where you are vulnerable to the infections include public swimming pools, showers, gyms – in other words, any places that are moist and warm, which is the best environment for the fungus to develop and multiply. The people that are most often affected by toe nail fungus are athletes. This has to do with their busy schedules and lack of opportunity to take good care of their skin.

Nail fungus can also result from too low or too high pH balance of your skin, or just be the consequence of wet feet that have not been properly dried with a towel.

The first and the most accurate sign of toenail fungus is the unusual color of nail plates – they become yellowish or even brown; their texture also changes – they begin to crumble and become outgrown. This condition also makes the person’s feet smell, especially if shoes are worn during the whole day.
Since it’s a well known fact that nail fungus feels very comfortable in an environment that is wet and warm, make sure you keep your feet and hands properly dried with a towel. Another thing to do would be wearing socks that are 100% cotton, as this material has hygroscopic properties (adsorbs water, sweat and prevents your feet from stewing). It is also not recommended to lend your items of personal hygiene to other people, as well as borrow them from someone. In addition to that, file your toenails regularly to make sure the edges are smooth.

Treating nail fungus takes a lot of time and effort. Most antifungals that are available in the market these days often have collateral effects; therefore, more and more people choose home-made products that are as efficient in eliminating toe nail fungus and a lot cheaper.

Among the most popular products known for anti-fungal properties there is Listerine mouthwash. The mode of application is the following: you need to make a solution with several drops of the mouthwash and warm water. The solution should be applied to the toes with special emphasis on the toe nails. Other possible ingredients for a similar procedure include lavender oil and tea tree oil in the ratio of 1:1. According to a number of experiments, tea tree oil contains compounds that combat infection and soothe the skin; this is also a natural antibiotic. Lastly, there is essential oil called Oregano that has powerful antiseptic and antibacterial properties; it should be mixed (2 drops) with a tablespoon of olive oil. Use this remedy during 2-3 weeks applying it on infected toes.

However, using specific remedies is not the only thing you should do to advance in curing nail fungus. Sticking to a healthy diet is just as important, as it can contribute to the stability of your results. In case you suffer from toenail fungus, your diet should include plenty of living bacteria (yoghurt, kefir, etc.); try to exclude sugary drinks, sweets, carbs and dairy. Vinegar is another product you should avoid during the period of treatment.
Traditional methods of treating toe nail fungus take a lot of time and require money. It is very important that you choose the most efficient fungus treatment plan and don’t take breaks, as this can result in your disease promptly recurring.
